I assume you're talking on linux? In which case add these after the
for loop for removing mainwin environment variables

setenv MWIGNORE_DESKTOPINI 1
setenv SI_BROWSER_DONT_CHECK_CHILDREN_FOLDERS 1

Gamin versions later than 0.1.7 can also cause slowdowns in file
related stuff in XSI (including opening some ppgs etc). If you have
a later version then you'll want to downgrade.
