You could still use it from the script using
XSIUtils.LaunchProcess
Adam.

thanks for clarification. The SDK docs for the SetThumbnail() were not clear in that respect.
I was already working with setthumb.exe, but was hoping for something I could call from script within the XSI interface.
thanks,
Matt

The SetThumbnail command is for setting thumbnails that will be viewed in the user interface in something called a shelf. There are shelves on Scene Objects in the Material Manager, for example.
At the command line, you can set thumbnails with any .bmp file into XSI Scene files and preset files with the executable called "setthumb.exe"

Subject: thumbnails saved with files
Anybody have success saving thumbnail images with shader presets and other files saved to disc? (other than scenes).
I'm trying to use the SetThumbnail() command but am not having any luck with anything. The SDK docs state a list of elements must be supplied (as in, something within the scene). so I've passed materials, shaders, and X3DObjects, but none have any effect. I'm using .bmp as the image format. After running the SetThumbnail() command, the .bmp gets copied to the current project's thumbnails folder, but that's about it.
Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks.
Matt
