I see.  Thanks for clearing this up David.  I think I've just about fudged my way around it using standard 'Emit and Disappear' events... it's a bit clunky and less flexible, but it should be OK for this job.  Alas, I has no time now to try your suggestion.  Makes perfect sense though, thanks again.

Once the cloud is getting simmed by a particleOp you can't really change the pType.  A trick might be to make a second particle cloud that is not simmed but rather controlled by a scripted op.  You could copy all the necessary data from the simmed cloud to the non-simmed cloud using the scripted Op and still retain the ability to change ptypes.  Not quick or easy :P

Hi Joe.  Digging up a really old thread here.....

I too am trying to use this at the moment, and it's kind of key to whole system I need to use to populate a scene.  Did you ever manage to find a solution to this?

I've tried it both from a particle event, where it does absolutely nothing, and a scripted operator which gives me a huge schizophrenic mess of unusable rubbish.....

Cheers,

Os ot possible to change the pType of a particle from an event script? I tried setting the TypeID, but this had no effect. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
