I'm not sure polymesh/surfmesh objects are the best way. It could be heavy if you've got a lot of sketch curves.
The best way would be to directly render your curves as Mental Ray hair primitives but it is not very easy in XSI for the moment.
A funny way would be to evenly distribute some particles along each curves. Then you can tweak the particle sprite shader to get the look you want.
