That's because geometry shaders are only run on the master and the resulting geometry is sent to the slave (on demand, of course). The hair instancing is all done through a geometry shader and creates a *lot* of geometry, which may take a long time to transfer across the network.

Are you using instances on hair ? I think there is a bug  with those when using slaves...

Even a simple cube instantiated a hundred times from a hair object will render ten times faster without satellite.
