Hey Chris, sorry I missed this thread (I was in New York - yeah baby!), and it looks like you got it sorted but, anyway, I thought you might want to check this out:

I wrote it to create a complete cluster but I'll probably change it so you can select/create the cluster and still use the 'Protect Boundaries' control with the cluster too.  An overall weight slider is needed too....

It's not a plugin - just run it.

By the way, on a more technical note to anyone out there knowledgeble in these things, I wanted this operator to go in the main operator stack, which I managed, simply my taking the geometry as the first input of the scop.  However, this results in it becoming very unreliable, how would you approach this?  Is it purely because it's a complete cluster?  I'm guessing it probably is...
