You'd think!
I normally setup an ortho camera, use rotoscope &
turn off visibility for everything else.
Only shame being you can't play a clip unless you use the
timeline.

Is there a way to zoom in the image clip viewer
like you do in the viewport? i.e. hold down S and dolly back and forth on the
clip or are we restricted to just the right click options?
