Yes, correct.  I just wanted to bake out a texture for a static character.  I quickly saw where this thread was headed and ran away :-)  I'll be revisiting this particular scene today though so I'll investigate some of the options discussed here a bit further.  Thanks everyone.

It seams you are putting a lot of effort to bake something that is view dependant anyway ?
the render time will be obviously faster than calculating but he human time dedicated seams to be higher than just calculating in live the SSS effect.
Plus this setup may just only work for your turntable and be totally useless in a production environement.

The first question you should answer is why you need to rendermap your SSS. What is increasing your render time ?
