At our place we've been using 3Delight for nearly a year. It took a long time to get comfortable with it, but looking back the issues we had were more to do with XSIMan than 3Delight.

All the work we've done with has been using shadow mapped lights, so I can't really comment on the ray tracer but in in my opinion

- its way way way more stable than mental ray.
- a zillion times faster when using motion blur
- renderman displacement is simply unbeatable.
- handles massive frame sizes effortlessly

If I could, I'd use it for everything!

One thing though - in order to get the most out of it you need to invest some time in learning about the Renderman pipeline and at least the basics of shaders. It's quite a different world from mental ray, but the effort is worth it. once I had done that a whole new world of shading and rendering opened up! it's great! (did i mention that?)

are you thinking of making the switch?

Hi all,

Was just wondering, everyone seemed SOOO happy when 3Dlight came out, did anyone made the switch? How do you like it? How did the transition worked out?

Also, FryRender came out with another update yesterday. Anyone tried that one?
