Bull, what kind of setup are you using to capture series of f stops automatically? You just using the remote
control and take various f stops manualy or you have managed to automate this process somehow.
D80 should allow capturing with predefined f stops settings three raw pics automatically in bracket mode but i have not tested with it.
I typically use a notebook and a WIA/PTP camera control application written by someone who frequents the PanoToolsNG list. It will do a bracket of 6 custom exposure and aperture settings with the push of a button. Can't find a link to it, so let me know off-list is you want me to flick you (or anyone else here...) a copy.
I've always been wary of in-camera bracketing as it just can't reach the extreme ends of exposure that makes HDRI really useful. And unless you've got a really solid tripod and panohead, I would stay away from manually adjusting the camera for each exposure, which can introduce camera shift if you're not careful. Having to lug a notebook (or even UMPC) is a bit of a hassle, but with the above software I'm getting an automated 25-30 stops into my HDRs, when it's needed of course.
I also noticed someone else in this thread mentioning PTGui and having to stich each set individually. The latest versions of PTGuiPro now auto-detect exposure sets and will build control points treating each set as a single image (or even attempt to align handheld sets). There are similar pieces of software out there, but Joost (PTGui author) has been rolling new features into the software and fixing bugs so quickly (just check out the PTGui version history) new releases are coming out almost monthly. I cannot recommend PTGui enough if you're doing any sort of pano work.
